They talk a big game.

The shame of it is that scammers prey upon basic human emotions. Sure they might be able to get your loved one out, but really their efforts are to separate you from your hard-earned money and earn a buck. Low down-payments, easy terms and quick release are some of the promises.

In reality, the State sets the minimum you must pay on all types of bails.  The prisons only release someone after they receive all the paperwork and in a slow, but timely manner, if it's late, they will not be out tonight.

They look like a thug or homeless person.

Yeah. That's right, their is no dress code or requirement to show you ID in advance of meeting with a prospect client.  Many agents work out of their car.

Bail agents come in all shapes, colors and attire.  Use your good senses. Sometimes a duck is just a duck, but you should always be careful and ask for State ID. If the deal sounds to good to be true, it most likely is trouble.


"No problem. I'll put up the rest of the cash."

Cash bails.  They are expensive and loaded with risk. If I had to put up cash or gouge my eye out, I would lose the eye.

If the court is asking for cash, there is a good reason.  Defaults are high and you could be wiped out, their are NO REFUNDS.  Most bail agents simply borrow the cash from someone else to make up the difference, they just don't tell YOU. The cash puppet master pulls the strings, not the bail agent.





You have to pay in cash.

Ok, let me be frank. BULLSHIT. While cash is easier, most legal bail companies and bail agents
accept credit cards.

Many have the ability to take your credit/debit card 24 hours a day.  If there is a problem or an issue about what is paid you have proof.  Only pay in cash if you have no other choice.  Late at night? Pay tomorrow, they aren't getting out tonight anyway.

Bail loan scam

"A fool and his money are soon parted." 

Beware of the cash bail loan scam.  It is ran by companies and individuals that are not licensed by the Department of Insurance for financing cash bails.  Sometimes called "lines of credit."

They have high rates of interest (usually paid up front) and may not be legal.
